The ages of 10 to 16 can be difficult ones for girls and their parents. It’s an exciting time, but also a time often filled with worry, concerns, doubts, and struggles. The US Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health created the girlshealth.gov website to promote healthy, positive behaviors in girls by providing reliable, useful information on the health issues they will face as they become young women as well as information on handling relationships with family and friends at school and at home.
The site offers information on a wide variety of topics, including:
- Building friendships
- Eating healthy foods
- Boosting self-esteem
- Talking to your doctor
- Handling stress
- Dealing with conflict
- Looking and feeling your best
- Dealing with bullies
- Getting fit
and much more!
The site also provides information for parents and teachers on supporting girls during these occasionally challenging years. Some of the resources are also available in Spanish. And unlike many other websites directed at girls and young women, girlshealth.gov has no advertising.
