Summer may be ending, but it’s time to build your PTA team for a great school year.
PTA is a partnership between families, school staff & administrators, and the community. Making a personal invitation to your parents and families can go a long way to assembling your team for a year of success!
It’s not too late to update your membership invitation letter for your parents, guardians, and students with a specific message tailored just for them. This is your opportunity to build this relationship, share upcoming events, & share examples of all that PTA does for their children, family, & school. The PTA enhances the education of their children, brings families together, & builds that relationship between parents and school. We invite them to team up with PTA for a new year of learning, support, community, & fun events ahead.
Examples of things to include in your recruitment Message:
Mission of the PTA
What your PTA provides:
- PTA enhances the education of all students: assemblies, guest speakers, curriculum resources, field trip assistance, afterschool enrichment events, etc.
- STEM, Literacy, Cultural Arts, and Digital Safety Programs that support that supplement curriculum.
- Build school community: family events, community service opportunities, etc.
- Parent Communication/Information: newsletter/messaging, calendar, PTA meetings, guest speakers, promote National PTA parent resources.
- Membership Benefits/Incentives: at local level, partner discounts/resources through Illinois PTA & National PTA
- Expectations of membership: participate at whatever level they want, no required meetings, etc.

Make a personal ask:
- Will your Principal assist in sending out your invitation to every family?
- Does your school offer a link to PTA information on their website?
- Ask if President can make a short 3-minute video message to be shared at Orientation night: sharing PTA info, upcoming programs/events, benefits of membership, and share a personal invitation to join the PTA.
- Ask your PTA board to reach out to their neighbors & friends to recruit new members.
Why join PTA? Because together our team is stronger when we all work together!
