The pandemic has dramatically changed how we PTA over the past year. From virtual PTA meetings to running events and membership drives without face-to-face contact, PTAs have struggled to adapt to the changes brought on by the pandemic. National PTA has responded to this challenge by adapting several of its programs to provide at-home models.

The programs were adapted to fit the unique needs of your school community, whether it’s an online virtual event or program activities for families to do at home with or without technology. The programs include:

National PTA reports that nearly 30,000 children, family members, school staff, and community members participated in PTA Programs at Home during the 2020-2021 school year, and 98% of the families completing a survey afterwards said they would like to do more of these activities with their family.

PTA leaders that hosted PTA Programs at Home events reported that their PTA saw more parent and caregiver engagement, leading to increased PTA membership. Some PTAs noted that they were able to reach families that had never attended a PTA or school event. Over three-quarters of PTA leaders said they found the program toolkits helpful and easy to use.

Regardless of the situation at your school this coming school year, consider offering PTA Programs at Home as part of your family engagement efforts. Remember that not every family may be able to attend an event in person at the school at a specific time and date for many different reasons. PTA Programs at Home can give your PTA the opportunity to connect with all of your families.
