While we generally focus on resources from National PTA and Illinois PTA here on One Voice Illinois (it is the Illinois PTA blog, after all), we have occasionally highlighted resources from other state PTAs. While other states might have laws or requirements that are different from those here in Illinois, many PTA resources on leadership, membership, and other PTA activities are fairly universal for any local PTA. Today, we’d like to highlight the Extra Credit training videos from Texas PTA.
Texas PTA has created a series of training videos for their local PTAs, many of which are specific to how PTAs in Texas operate. However, they also created a series of videos they call “Extra Credit” that focus on topics beyond the basics of running a PTA. Many of the videos are available in both English and Spanish, and they cover topics such as:
- Conflict Management
- Delegation
- Leading vs. Managing
- Building Relationships
- The Power Behind the Microphone (Public Speaking)
- Time Management
- The Ins and Outs of Volunteers
- Effective Communication
- Committees CAN Work
The videos run from 10 to 23 minutes, so when you find yourself needing to learn the basics of conflict management right now, you can do it fairly quickly. Check out the Extra Credit video series from Texas PTA, and remember that you have 54 state PTAs and National PTA resources to draw on.
