It’s Reflections season with art projects & entries being turned in.  Students and families are excited at the ability to create projects in the 6 art categories and share their talents and creativity!

Did your PTA sponsor the Reflections Art Program at your school?  Have you ever thought of integrating your Membership campaign with those families whose children participated in the Reflections Art Program?  You have a captive audience that has just experienced one of PTA’s more recognizable programs Reflections.  They had a chance to see how this program: 

  • Supports student success at school, work, & in life
  • Builds & demonstrates critical thinking, communication, collaboration, & creativity
  • Reflections celebration events give students confidence & they are engaged in their own learning.

Use this time as an opportunity to expand your reach and welcome new or returning members into your PTA.  Many people say they never joined the PTA because no one ever asked them!

Here are some helpful tips to incorporate a membership component before, during, or after your Reflections Program:

  • Compose a list of prospective members to reach out to:
    • Families of Reflections Participants & award recipients
    • Volunteers and judges
    • Interested teachers and school leaders
    • Community Arts & Education Professionals
  • Collaborate with your Programs Chair to:
    • Promote your PTA’s resources, events, & programs such as Reflections
    • Promote the benefits for your whole school-community
    • Share expectations of membership: (Are they expected to volunteer, attend meetings, etc.)
    • Ask others to help in recruitment to EXPAND YOUR REACH
  • Recruit Members at Celebration Events:
    • At Awards & Membership Information table
    • Awards announcement with a call to action: to Join PTA!
    • Provide laptops or QR codes at events to prompt immediate action to join
    • Provide Incentives/challenges for celebration attendees to join
    • Offer option to publicly “Gift Membership” to thank school/community leaders

Joining PTA can be a great way to say “Thank You” for programs that your child or family appreciated.  Give your families the welcome invitation to join the PTA during Reflections season and all year long.
