National PTA’s Standards for Family-School Partnerships are the basis for effective family engagement. And effective family engagement is critical to student success, as a recent study demonstrated that schools with better family engagement practices had students that did better after returning to school from remote learning during the pandemic. National PTA has recently released a video series to help local PTAs better understand the standards.

The National PTA Standards for Family-School Partnerships have six standards:

  1. Welcome All Families
  2. Communicate Effectively
  3. Support Student Success
  4. Speak Up for Every Child
  5. Share Power
  6. Collaborate with Community

The video series has six short videos under six minutes on each of the standards. There is also a recent 71-minute webinar to conclude the series, Transforming Family-School Partnerships: De-Politicizing Family Engagement and SEL.

Effective family engagement not only supports student success, it helps your PTA as well because engaged families are more likely to become involved with your PTA. Check out the video series to learn how your PTA can better engage your families. You can also plan ahead to participate in the School of Excellence program next year. The program is built on the six standards, and registration for the 2024-2025 program will begin May 1, 2024.
